HUD Investigates Planned Muslim Community for Violating Fairing Housing Act

Secretary Turner says, “I will not stand for illegal religious or national origin discrimination in housing.”

The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) is investigating EPIC Real Properties, Inc., and Community Capital Partners, LP, for a planned Muslim housing development.

“It is deeply concerning, the East Plano Islamic Center may have violated the Fair Housing Act and participated in religious discrimination,” said HUD Secretary Scott Turner. “As HUD Secretary, I will not stand for illegal religious or national origin discrimination in housing and will ensure that this matter receives a thorough investigation so that this community is open to all Texans.”

The Texas Workforce Commission filed a HUD complaint due to marketing materials that described the development as an exclusively Muslim community, financial terms that required lot owners to subsidize a mosque and Islamic educational centers, and other discriminatory lot sales strategies.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Turner to seek God’s guidance as he oversees HUD and the investigation of religious discrimination.
  • For HUD officials as they probe the potential violations of the Fair Housing Act.
  • For federal, state, and local public servants as they work to prevent discriminatory practices in the housing industry.
